Before you choose a treatment
A photo alerts, it does not decide
ABCDE, change, bleeding and a sore that does not heal help you know when to ask for an examination, but they neither confirm nor rule out cancer. When there is suspicion, clinical examination comes first, and a biopsy with histology may be needed.
Diagnosis before removal
A suspicious lesion should not be treated as a cosmetic procedure first. The type of biopsy or excision depends on the lesion's appearance, site and the diagnostic question, and the histology result guides the next step.
Risk factors change the plan
The number and site of lesions, sun damage, immunity, personal and family history and tumour type all change follow-up and treatment. That is why no single treatment map fits every spot or every skin cancer.
